Neighbourhood House tees up Back 9 lease

Echuca Nieghbourhood House could step and save Echuca's Bck 9 Golf Course.

Neighbourhood House is in discussion with Campaspe Shire to take on the lease, after Bendigo Regional YMCA announced it would not renew its lease which ends today.

Mayor Adrian Weston said neighbourhood house approached council, with an interest in a 12-month lease to take on management of the gold course.

“Discussions are now underway regarding the licence agreement, and as there is a small section of Crown Land, we are also working with the land manager (Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning) to approve the arrangement,” Cr Weston said.

“It is expected to take up to four weeks to finalise the licence agreement, however council and the neighbourhood house are working to finalise the agreement earlier if possible. In the interim period, council will continue to water and mow the site.”

“It will not operate as a golf course in this period, however the site will be kept green and tidy ready for the neighbourhood house to operate.”

Echuca Neighbourhood House Manager, Ms Shandel Keele said they were excited by the opportunity and looking forward to being “open for business”.

“The Echuca Neighbourhood House is also looking forward to the support of past YMCA golf members and to growing the golf member and volunteer base,” Ms Keele said.

“Whilst we are finalising the licence agreement, the closure period will enable us to set up operations, secure memberships, engage contractors, source equipment and labour required.”

Cr Weston said once the licence agreement details are finalised the community will be advised and the golf course will be open for business.
