Wood heater believed to have started house fire in Deniliquin
A house sitter was lucky to escape after fire damaged a home in Deniliquin on Saturday night.
The home owners of the McKenzie St property were away at the time,with another person minding the property at the time.
When the television turned off, the person soon noticed the glowing wall, followed by smoke filling the room/
Deniliquin Fire Brigade was able to quickly extinguish the fire, with damage contained mainly to the roof, as well as some water damage inside.
Police don't believe the fire was suspicious, with a wood fire the most likely cause.
Deniiliquin High School break in
Would-be thieves have broken into Deniliquin High School's canteen over the weekend.
Staff arrived at the school this morning to find a roller door to the canteen had been forced and the canteen ransacked.
Nothing appeared to be taken, with the offence occuring between 4pm on Friday and 8am on Monday.

Echuca man caught drunk driving
An Echuca man will face court after he was caught driving with a mid-range blood alcohol reading on Friday night.
Police caught the man, 56, driving on Bunnaloo Rd, Mathoura, at 10.46pm.
He returned a reading of ..088 and was immediately suspended from driving in NSW until he faces court.
Pre-school wall targeted by graffiti vandals
Deniliquin Pre-School has been the target of a graffiti attack at the weekend.
Between 6pm Friday and 9.30am Sunday, vandals have written rude words and drawn a crude picture on the wall of a shed at the pre-school.
Police are investigating.
Two number plates stolen in Deniliquin, one used in petrol drive off
Thieves have stolen number plates from two cars parked near Deniliquin TAFE last week.
One vehicle was targeted between 7.30am Thursday and 8pm Friday, while the other was taken between 5pm and 7pm Friday.
Police will allege one of the plates was used in a petrol drive off at a north Deniliquin serivce station at 6.35pm on Friday.
Deniliquin police are investigating.
Deniliquin man charged with assaulting ex-partner
A Deniliquin man, 23, will face court, charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, after punching a woman in the face on Friday.
Police were called to a property on the outskirts of Deniliquin, belonging to the victim, about 2pm, after an argument broke out.
Officers will allege the man punched the woman in the face, before fleeing. He was arrested at a Deniliquin home shortly after.
As well as the charge, he was given a domestic violence order.
