High surrender rate in Murray River District
The Murray River Police District topped the state during the NSW Firearms Amnesty with the highest number of firearms surrendered.
Figures released by NSW Police show 128 firearms were handed-in over the three months to 30 September from areas including Deniliquin, Finley and Tocumwal.
Police say the amnesty helped to reduce the number of unregistered guns without owners being penalised.
Across the state more than 8300 shotguns and rifles were surrendered.
Police say anyone who hasn't registered or disposed of a firearm, or the parts for firearms, could now face a hefty penalty.
