He then set off the fire alarm and evacuated the building at around 7.30am when he called the fire brigade.

The power was shut off to allow the firefighters to work safely.

Operations Officer for the CFA Peter Bell said investigations on Monday deemed the fire as not suspicious at this stage, however investigations are still continuing.

"The building has been extensively damaged with smoke and water damage," he said.

"At this stage, there is two rooms that were badly affected by fire, and that was the office and ... the lounge-room above it on the first floor."
